Monthly data on congestion on inter-urban roads

The Department for Transport has today published the first stand-alone web bulletin in a new monthly series of National Statistics covering congestion on inter-urban roads in England.

The DfT will now publish 'Congestion on inter-urban roads' every month and a consolidated bulletin 'Road Traffic and Congestion in Great Britain' every quarter. This quarterly bulletin also contains figures on traffic volumes and on congestion on urban roads. A statistical news release will be issued alongside each of the quarterly bulletins, but not alongside the monthly bulletins.

This is the second bulletin in the 'Congestion on inter-urban roads' series, but the first not to coincide with the quarterly bulletin 'Road Traffic and Congestion in Great Britain'.

Provisional estimates for April 2008 and final figures for March 2008 are available at: http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/datatablespublications/roadstraffic/speedscongestion/congestiononthestrategicroad5359

Provisional statistics for May 2008 will be released on 3 July 2008. Dates for releases in future months can be found at http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/forthcomingstatisticalpublic5470 .

These latest National Statistics on congestion on inter-urban roads in England were produced by the Department for Transport according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The inter-urban network consists of all motorways and trunk A roads managed by the Highways Agency, as well as the M6 Toll. This is also known as the Strategic Road Network (SRN).
