Business secretary visits Chinese school to plug British educational technology
Secretary of State John Hutton today visited a Chinese school to see how British technology is putting Chinese children in touch with the rest of the world.
He visited Houhai Primary School in Shenzhen, near the border with Hong Kong to see how whiteboard technology is improving lessons for pupils.
The visit to the school was part of his visit to the Far East to promote trade and investment between China and the UK.
The school has 30 electronic whiteboards installed throughout the school. They double as interactive whiteboards and video screens. They can also stream the internet through them.
Mr Hutton said: "We want to do all we can to highlight the business opportunities there are in China. The Chinese welcome investment across many sectors.
"The Chinese are investing heavily in educational technology and this demonstrates just what can be achieved. The benefits are huge not just for the companies but for the Children who are taught in such a stimulating way using modern technology."
Paul Pickup, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO of Promethean said: "Promethean firmly believes China is set to be one of the world leader in the field of education, mainly due to its investment in education, its booming economy and interest in innovative technologies.
Our belief is further endorsed by the opening of our flagship manufacturing plant in Shenzhen and continued expansion across the market - the opening of Promethean's Hong Kong office in April, is significantly strengthening our presence in the Chinese market, enabling us to establish new relationships with partners and helping raise both our brand and the profile of British companies in the region."
'The relationship with Hou Hai Primary school was initiated when the principal visited the UK and experienced the Promethean Activclassroom for the first time, our solution proved so inspirational that she determined to implement the technology throughout her school.
"In October 2007, we completed installation of over 30 Activboards throughout the school and have since forged a strong partnership that further underlines the continued synergy in many markets between the UK and China."
Ends.
