Dolphins wash ashore at Porth Creek

At half past eight this morning Falmouth Coastguard were informed that several dolphins had become stranded in a creek on the Percuil River near St. Mawes.

Falmouth Coastguard tasked Portscatho Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene to provide assistance and requested the launch of the Falmouth RNLI Inshore Lifeboat. The Cornwall Wildlife Trust, vets and British marine volunteers are also in attendance attempting to treat the remaining live dolphins, although several numbers of the pod have now died.

Falmouth Coastguard Watch Manager Henry Purbrick said:

"Currently wildlife experts are in attendance attempting to treat the remaining dolphins and ensure that furthers numbers do not become stranded. We would ask that members of the public leave these professionals to their task to give the animals the best chance of survival, and that any vessels traversing the area avoid Porth Creek and do not attempt rescue efforts of the dolphins."
