EPA Holds National Lead Air Quality Public Hearing in St. Louis


(Kansas City, Kan., June 9, 2008) - The Environmental Protection Agency plans a public hearing June 12 for proposed revisions to the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for lead. The hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., June 12 at the Omni Majestic Hotel, 1019 Pine Street, St. Louis, Mo.

Region 7 will host one of two national EPA public hearings in St. Louis, Mo., to hear testimony regarding proposed revisions to the primary and secondary national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) for lead. Comments also will be taken regarding data handling procedures, ambient air monitoring, reporting requirements and implementation guidance. Stephen D. Page, EPA's Director of Air Quality Planning and Standards, will officiate at the hearings along with members of the EPA Region 7 staff.

The public hearings will provide interested parties the opportunity to present data, views, or arguments concerning the proposed rules. EPA may ask clarifying questions during the oral presentations, but will not respond to the presentations at that time. Written statements and supporting information also can be submitted during the comment period and will be considered with the same weight as any oral comments and supporting information presented at the public hearings.
