Olympic Games: Table Tennis veterans honored at their sixth Olympic Games

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) honored the achievements of three Table Tennis Olympians prior to the commencement of the bronze medal contest on Monday.

Table Tennis veterans Jorgen Persson of Sweden, Zoran Primorac of Croatia and Jean-Michel Saive of Belgium are the only athletes to have competed in every Olympic Games since Table Tennis made its debut in Seoul in 1988.

"China is the country of Table Tennis. It is a great feeling that the ITTF did not forget the athletes," Saive said.

Persson echoed Saive’s sentiment. "It is very special. It feels really good," he said.

Primorac was also pleased his years of play had been recognized. "I feel really honored today, really touched. It's a great feeling to be on top of the world for 23 years, a third of a lifetime," he said.

All three have enjoyed distinguished careers, but Primorac is the only one to win a medal. Representing Yugoslavia at the time, he won silver in the Men's Doubles event with Ilija Lupulesku in Seoul in 1988.
