Gunners from 105 Regiment Royal Artillery (volunteers) today fired a 21-gun Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle to celebrate the 60th Birthday of Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay.

It was the first time a Royal Salute has been fired for Prince Charles from Edinburgh Castle.

Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Ian Ross said:

"The Regiment is deeply honoured to fire this 21-Gun Royal Salute to mark the 60th Birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Charles, The Duke of Rothesay.

"This is the first time a Royal Salute has been fired for Prince Charles at Edinburgh Castle; and it provides another occasion for the soldiers of the Regiment to display their professionalism and pride in conducting such an honour."

Following the Salute the Inspecting Officer was The Right Honourable The Earl of Airlie, accompanied by General Officer Commanding the Army's 2nd Division and Governor of Edinburgh Castle Major General David McDowall.
