Cullen extends congratulations to author Colum McCann


Martin Cullen TD, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism has congratulated (19 November 2009) New York based Dublin-born writer Colum McCann who has won the Fiction Prize in the USA’s prestigious National Book Awards 2009. Colum received the award for his work ‘Let the Great World Spin,’ published by Random House.

Minister Cullen said: “I am delighted Colum McCann has won this prestigious award which recognises his immense talent and in particular, his brilliantly crafted New York story ‘Let the Great World Spin.’ The Irish imagination is one of our greatest assets and the individual creative success of modern Irish writers like Colum McCann continues to make an enormous contribution to cultural life both at home and abroad. The global cultural profile of Irish artists past and present, indelibly associates Ireland with world-class achievement in creativity and the arts. I congratulate Colum McCann on this personal achievement - which will even further advance his literary reputation, - and wish him continued success into the future.”
