Judicial Appointment


Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary: The Judiciary today (November 20) announced the re-appointment of one incumbent Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court. The re-appointment of Mr Benjamin Yu, SC will be for three years commencing on December 1, 2009 upon expiry of his current term. The re-appointment is made by the Chief Executive on the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission.

The biographical note of the Recorder is as follows: Mr Benjamin Yu, SC Mr Yu, SC was born in 1957. After obtaining LL.B and P.C.LL. from the University of Hong Kong in 1978 and 1979 respectively, he obtained LL.M.

from the University of London in the United Kingdom in 1980.He was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1979.He was appointed as Queen's Counsel in 1995 and as Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court since 2003. He is currently in private practice.
