US Labor Department forms alliance with Mexican Consulate in New York and Diocese of Brooklyn

Effort will promote labor rights of Mexican and other Hispanic workers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut

NEW YORK — The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Wage and Hour Division today signed an alliance with the Consulate General of Mexico in New York as part of an effort to promote the labor and human rights of Mexican and other Hispanic workers. The New York State Department of Labor (NYS DOL) and the Catholic Migration Office (CMO) of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn are also part of the alliance.

Alliance participants will work collaboratively to support a call center that will provide Mexican and other Hispanic workers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut education, guidance and assistance about their rights in the workplace.

"It's very simple. The law says every worker has both the right to proper compensation for hours worked and to a safe workplace," said Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. "The purpose of this alliance is to provide Mexican and other Latino workers in the tri-state area with the information and resources that will help them recognize and challenge unsafe and improper working conditions, and to raise awareness of their rights as working people. After all, knowledge is a worker's most valuable tool."

Under the alliance, a LABORAL call center will be operated by the CMO. Callers to a toll-free number, 877-52-LABOR (525-2267), will receive information, guidance and assistance in English and Spanish regarding labor issues, including minimum wages, proper overtime compensation, youth employment rules, migrant and seasonal work protections, and the labor rights and responsibilities of workers and employers. When appropriate, the center will direct calls and claims to the U.S. Department of Labor. All information provided by individuals will remain confidential.

The alliance was signed at the Mexican consulate by OSHA Regional Administrators Robert Kulick (New York) and Marthe Kent (New England); Wage and Hour Division Northeast Regional Administrator Corlis L. Sellers; Ambassador Ruben Beltran, Consul General of Mexico; CMO Executive Director Edward Dominguez; and NYS DOL Deputy Commissioner for Wage Protection and Immigrant Affairs Terri Gerstein.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, OSHA's role is to promote safe and healthful working conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, outreach and education. For more information, visit http://www.osha.gov.

The Wage and Hour Division is responsible for enforcing some of our nation's most comprehensive federal labor laws, including the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, youth employment and special employment, family and medical leave, migrant workers, lie detector tests, worker protections in certain temporary worker programs, and the prevailing wages for government service and construction contracts. For more information about the laws the division enforces, visit http://www.wagehour.dol.gov.

Since the 1986 amnesty, "OUR" gov't has ignored our Constitution and the demands of Americans to build the dbl layered fence/ enforce immigration laws. The deaths of 25 Americans each and every day is caused by an illegal alien invader. They have no rights in our country and the USA has become a NATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. Let us take back our country--now!

Doesn't the Constitution and Bill of Rights say that only Congress or the Senate negotiate with foreign governments on behalf of the country. Not even the President can sign a treaty without approval. If this is true and I will look into it later then OSHA has committed treason against the people of the United States.
Where is the Justice Dept? Why have they not looked into this outrage?

It is despicable that with so many Americans out of work, people who violate our immigration laws are being coddled. There may be a bright side to this, though. When illegals start demanding higher pay, etc.they may not appear as attractive to those employers looking for slave labor.

Americans are so "smart" when it comes to suggesting what people in the rest of the world need to do, WHILE THEIR OWN COUNTRY IS COLLAPSING UNDER A WAVE OF LAWLESS ILLEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR ENABLERS. SHAME ON US!!

Illegal aliens are destroying this Country. You have to be blind not to see this.
Illegal aliens have made America the dumping ground for all their illegal alien children, then we have to school them and give them free medical care.

I for one, am sick and tired of these illegal aliens snubbing their nose at our immigration laws and the many other laws of this Country. If our Federal Government can not ENFORCE our immigration laws, and get these illegal aliens out of this Country, then let the States do it! One way or another, an end has to come to this illegal immigration, and not with AMNESTY! Amnesty will only encourage more illegal aliens to invade our Country and reward those who broke our laws and raped the American taxpayer in many ways...depressing our wages, taking our jobs, overwhelming our schools with their ILLEGAL ALIEN children, driving without a license or car insurance, all the crime from stolen identities to rape, drugs and everything else.
It's time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these illegal aliens. It's time for them get out of this Country and back in their own Country where they belong. When we get rid of the illegal aliens, we will get rid of all the problems that go with them. THAT IS A FACT!

The law also says that one may not work in this country illegally. The law also says that one may not commit fraud or identity theft to work or for any other reason. Maybe this call center should make a point of reminding users of their RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE LAW as well as their rights.

I urge all of you to work for a clean sweep of the Democrat congress in 2010 and the anti-citizen BO administration in 2012. If's become evident that BO and company are Marxist anti-sovereignty, anti-patriots that need to be shown the door at the earliest opportunity of the American people.
