The Post Office highlights the importance of purchasing travel insurance before setting off for a UK summer holiday

Research carried out by the BDRC has revealed that frustration with air travel and the quality improvements made in UK tourism could lead to an increase in domestic holidays taken by UK travellers in 2010. As a result, Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding holidaymakers to ensure they have a travel insurance policy in place, even if holidaying at home.

With 70 per cent of those surveyed by the BRDC, considering booking a domestic story Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding holidaymakers that they may should still consider travel insurance to cover their holiday plans.

Transport cancellations, theft or loss of items or illness can all happen before or during UK travel so Post Office Travel Insurance is underlining the value of travel insurance for domestic holidays.
Rachel Croft, head of Post Office Travel Insurance, said: "Many people don't consider that they face the same risks when holidaying in the UK as they would abroad and that travel insurance is still needed - things like cancellation, cutting the holiday short and lost belongings can all happen on home turf, so it's worth checking your home or travel insurance policy to see if you will be covered."
