Imports of poultry products from Spain fully resumes today

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) announced today (March 9) that the processing of applications for importing poultry meat and products from the provinces of Guadalajara and Navarra, Spain would resume with immediate effect. The CFS suspended processing of applications from Spain following confirmation of highly pathogenic avian influenza H7 cases in a poultry farm in Castilla-La Mancha, Guadalajara, in October last year. Prior to this, importation of poultry meat and products from Navarra has also been under suspension following confirmation of low pathogenic avian influenza H5 cases in a duck farm.

Due to appropriate control measures taken by the Spanish authorities, processing of applications from Spain other than the above two regions resumed in November last year. "In view of the cleansing and disinfection programmes implemented by the country and the fact that there are no other cases of avian influenza reported, we decided to resume processing of applications from the above two regions as well," a CFS spokesman said.
