BT announced today that it has been awarded a contract with the Spanish government to connect its embassies across the world. The four year contract worth 31.9 million Euros will supply the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs with national and international data networks for its main administrative office.

BT will provide the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the telecommunications infrastructure and services for Spain’s 260 diplomatic centres around the world including embassies, consular offices and the Ministry’s central offices in Spain.

Luis Alvarez, President of EMEA and Latin America, BT Global Services said; “We are very proud of having won the trust of the Foreign Affairs Ministry as this is the Spanish Government’s largest contract in terms of scope of international services. The ministry will benefit from better services delivered by up-to date infrastructure to satisfy all their needs. BT’s strong presence in Spain, combined with its ability to deliver global solutions was crucial to the winning of the contract.”

The new communications network will satisfy international offices increasingly high demands to access the IT applications that are held centrally in Madrid. BT Spain will deliver advanced technical service for the installation and maintenance of a multiservice IP VPN, including secure internet access as well as the supply and support of fixed line telephone communications within Spain between the Ministry’s offices.
