President's Direction to facilitate mediation in Land Compulsory Sale Cases


Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

To encourage parties involved in Land Compulsory Sale Cases to consider mediation, the President of the Lands Tribunal has issued a Direction pursuant to Section 10(5)(a) of the Lands Tribunal Ordinance (Cap.17), which will be implemented with effect from next Tuesday (February 15).

The Lands Tribunal has a duty to facilitate the settlement of disputes.As part of its active case management, it also has a duty to encourage parties to use alternative dispute resolution procedures where appropriate.

The Judiciary has published a new booklet, "General Guide to Mediation for Land Compulsory Sale Cases", which provides a brief outline of the Direction (LTPD: CS No.1/2011).Copies of the booklet can be obtained from the Lands Tribunal, 38 Gascoigne Road, Kowloon and the Mediation Information Office, LG1 High Court Building, 38 Queensway, Hong Kong.
