Trio sentenced for conspiracy to steal


Hong Kong (HKSAR) - Three Bulgarian males, aged between 31 and 48, were sentenced at the District Court today (January 27) for conspiracy to steal. Two defendants, aged 48 and 33, were sentenced to 40 months' imprisonment while one defendant, aged 31, was sentenced to 36 months¡¦ imprisonment.

The District Court heard that the defendants conspired to use fake cards being encoded with data from overseas bank accounts to withdraw cash from Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) on Hong Kong Island in May 2011. A total of 190 fake cards were used and about HK$765,000 was drawn from the banks.

On May 17, 2011, Commercial Crime Bureau officers arrested the three men in a service apartment in Sheung Wan and seized a total of 190 fake cards.



The trio were subsequently charged for conspiracy to steal. They were convicted to the charges at the District Court and the sentences were handed down today.
