FEMA: 30 More Wildfire-Affected Counties Can Apply For FEMA Public Assistance
Federal disaster aid in the form of Public Assistance reimbursements has been approved for 30 additional Texas counties affected by wildfires in 2011, the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) said Thursday.
Under the latest amendment to the September 9 major disaster declaration for wildfires that occurred August 30 to December 31, 2011, applicants in 29 counties are eligible to apply for FEMA Public Assistance (PA) grants for measures taken to protect life and property before, during and after the blazes.
These counties are Bowie, Caldwell, Camp, Crockett, Fayette, Foard, Franklin, Grayson, Grimes, Hardin, Hunt, Jefferson, Kendall, La Salle, Lee, Limestone, Matagorda, McCulloch, Newton, Orange, Pecos, Polk, Red River, Reeves, Roberts, San Augustine, Shelby, Titus and Tyler.
In addition, eligible costs for all categories of work, including debris removal and infrastructure repair, are now available to Bosque County.
This brings to 61 the number of counties eligible to apply for PA grants under the September 9 disaster declaration.
"FEMA continues to work side by side with the state to help drive community recovery by getting assistance dollars to local governments." said Federal Coordinating Officer Kevin L. Hannes.
Under the program, FEMA obligates funds to the state for 75 percent of eligible costs, while the applicant covers the remaining 25 percent. The state forwards the federal funds to the eligible local governments or organizations that incurred costs.
Previously designated for the PA program as a result of the wildfires are Anderson, Bastrop, Briscoe, Cass, Cherokee, Clay, Colorado, Coryell, Edwards, Gregg, Hall, Harrison, Henderson, Hill, Houston, Howard, Kimble, Leon, Marion, Menard, Montague, Morris, Navarro, Nolan, Panola, Rusk, Smith, Sutton, Upshur, Walker and Wise counties.
