Malalane - The Mpumalanga government has offered to help bury a recently married couple who died in a horrific road accident along with their three children over the weekend.
Vusumuzi Nsingwane, his wife, Nompumelelo Nxumalo, and their children, Lindokuhle, Lwazi and Lwethu Nsingwane, died while driving from Sibhejane village outside Komatipoort to Kempton Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.
Nsingwane's mother, Eva Sambo, 75, said the family was killed just two days after her son and daughter-in-law were married in a civil ceremony.
"They got married just two days before they were no more. I didn't believe my ears when I got the call to say they had an accident on their way back home," she said, sobbing. "We only got the message on Sunday afternoon."
Another family member, Zodwa Nsingwane said the family was still in shock.
"We still don't believe our brother and his family are no more in this world. It came to us as a shock because they had just visited us here at home," she said.
Nsingwane and Nxumalo had signed their marriage certificates at the Tonga Magistrate's Court on Thursday, and were on their way home when their Toyota Yaris crashed into an oncoming truck on the N12 between Delmas and Emalahleni.
"I will make sure that my department and other stakeholders lend a hand, making sure that the deceased are buried by the government," said Department Of Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe on Monday.
Shongwe was speaking at the Nsingwane family's house in Sibhejane, where department officials visited relatives for support.
The MEC said the accident was unusual in that an entire family was wiped out in a single incident.
Road Accident Fund (RAF) representative Sibusiso Simelane said the RAF would work hand-in-hand with the government to bury the deceased.
"We are going to provide the coffins, transport, mortuary services, tents and chairs and others to the family," said Simelane.
He said the RAF would help the extended family through the RAF claims process.
Shongwe said altogether 13 people died on Mpumalanga roads in four separate accidents since Saturday afternoon
The Nsingwane family will be buried at Sibhejane cemetery on Saturday.
