Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has declared that former Minister of Corporative Governance and Traditional Affairs Sicelo Shiceka is to receive an official funeral.

This was announced by Minister in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Collins Chabane on Friday.

He said at the ordinary Cabinet meeting on Thursday, Cabinet had noted the President's decision to declare the burial as an official funeral.

Shiceka will be laid to rest on Saturday, May 12 in Midrand, Johannesburg.

President Jacob Zuma had earlier extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the former minister and described Shiceka as a remarkable hard worker who had taken up the job of establishing the new Department of Cooperative Government and Traditional Affairs with gusto and turning it into a fully functional department.

Shiceka passed away at Umtata General Hospital in the Eastern Cape, on Monday, following a long illness that saw him take extended leave from his work as a minister.

Cabinet also conveyed condolences to the Minister of Rural Development and Traditional Affairs, Gugile Nkwinti and family who has lost his mother. The funeral will be held on Sunday 6 May at 08h00 at the Bantu Church of Christ in Tantyi Township, Grahamstown
