Correctional staff stop an inmate attempting self-harm


Hong Kong (HKSAR) - Officers of the Correctional Services Department (CSD) discovered and stopped an inmate on remand attempting self-harm at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) this afternoon (July 28).

The officer found some fresh injuries at the left forearm of the 24-year-old inmate, suspectedly made with his plastic comb. The inmate sustained minor injury.

Immediate medical treatment was given to him at the centre hospital. He will be followed up by the clinical psychologist.

A CSD spokesperson said, "The department has been using all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm.

The measures include administrative arrangements, improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."

The inmate was remanded at LCKRC for trafficking in dangerous drugs.
