DH's special arrangement on infant formulae with low iodine content

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - Parents of infants aged from one to eight months who are taking Wakodo and Morinaga infant milk formulae can make appointments for thyroid function tests with 10 designated Maternal and Child Care Centres (MCHCs) under the Department of Health (DH) starting today (August 9).

The 10 designated MCHCs (see Annex) will be operated from tomorrow (August 10) at 6pm for blood testing. Up to 4pm today, 59 parents had made appointments for blood testing for their infants on the first three days of operation.

Up to 4pm today, the DH hotline (2125 1111) had received 2,389 enquiries from members of the public.

Eighty-four callers said that their infants are mainly consuming the infant formulae concerned.

They have been advised to change to another brand of cow milk-based formula with adequate iodine content.

The DH hotline will operate from 9am to 9pm daily and manpower has been reinforced to handle public enquiries.

Updated information will be uploaded to the DH's website (www.dh.gov.hk) for public reference.
