Pretoria - Newly-elected chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission and Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma has been honoured for her contribution to the country's democracy and efforts to advance women's issues on the continent.

She was the recipient of an award from TOPCO Media at its ninth year's Life Time Achievers Awards at Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg on Wednesday.

The award was in recognition of Dlamini Zuma's contribution to the consolidation of South Africa's democracy, her role in the struggle for women's emancipation and in recognition of her recent election as the first female and southern regional candidate to assume the position of the AU Commission chairpersonship in 49 years.

The awards ceremony was attended by representatives of business as well as government representatives at national and provincial levels. - SAnews.gov.za
