Statistics Advisory Board discusses developments of statistics work
Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The Statistics Advisory Board held a meeting today (November 19) to discuss official statistics work and its recent developments.
At the meeting, members were informed that an updated set of domestic household projection of Hong Kong was being compiled. The conceptual framework of the projection and its dissemination plan were also reported.
The Commissioner for Census and Statistics and Chairperson of the Statistics Advisory Board, Mrs Lily Ou-yang, said, "The updated set of domestic household projection will cover the period from 2012 to 2041, with 2011 as the base period.
The projection provides a common and up-to-date statistical basis for government planning in various programme areas."
Members noted that the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) had put in place related statistical surveys and enhanced statistical systems for gauging the development of electronic commerce (e-commerce) in the light of the increasing penetration of e-commerce in both the business and household sectors of Hong Kong over the past decade. Members were briefed on the different new business models emerging from e-commerce and updated statistics reflecting the economic contributions of e-commerce.
Also reported at the meeting was the latest progress of the planning of the 2013 World Statistics Congress (WSC) to be held in Hong Kong in August 2013. Members noted that various areas of preparatory work related to the hosting of the 2013 WSC were in smooth progress.
The Board discussed other major statistical developments since the previous meeting, including the latest progress in disseminating detailed results of the 2011 Population Census, statistical indicators reflecting the situation of poverty and their underlying conceptual framework, and work relating to the promotion of statistical literacy in the community.
