LCSD to present appreciation talks on sacred choral music composers

Hong Kong (HKSAR) -      The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present two appreciation talks entitled "Sounds of the Pioneers - Discover Palestrina and Poulenc" in September.

The talks will introduce two master composers in sacred choral music: Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Francis Poulenc. Palestrina and Poulenc, who lived centuries apart and wrote in distinctive styles, were both deeply committed to the Catholic Church and suffered sad family losses and lived through turbulent times.

The talks, to be hosted in Cantonese by Patrick Chiu with live a cappella music by artists from the SingFest Choral Academy, will dissect Palestrina and Poulenc's music from historical, cultural and compositional points of view. The talks will be held at 7.30pm at CR2, Concert Hall Backstage, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
