Update on cluster of patients infected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus in Tai Po Hospital

Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of patients infected with Respiratory Syncytial Virus in a female psychiatric ward, the spokesperson for Tai Po Hospital made the following update today (September 10):
     One more 67-year-old female patient in the ward had presented with upper respiratory symptoms. Appropriate viral test had been arranged for the patient and the test result was positive to the Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The patient is being treated under isolation with stable condition.

     Restricted visiting has been imposed in the ward.

Infection control measures have already been stepped up according to established guidelines. All other patients in the ward are under close surveillance.

     The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
