Hongkong Post to issue "Year of the Dog" special stamps
Hong Kong (HKSAR) - Hongkong Post today (January 12) announced the release of a set of special stamps entitled "Year of the Dog", together with associated philatelic products, on January 27 (Saturday).
Being part of Chinese history and culture, the 12 Chinese zodiac animals convey good wishes and bear symbolic meanings, and therefore have been a popular theme for arts and crafts since ancient times. To herald the arrival of the Year of the Dog in 2018, Hongkong Post is presenting the seventh issue in its fourth Lunar New Year special stampseries, featuring a set of four stamps portraying dogs in different art forms, namely porcelain, jade, ceramic and seashell art, to underscore the theme of the Year of the Dog.
To celebrate the Spring Festival, a silk stamp sheetlet featuring a polychrome glazed porcelain dog sculpture against a background full of elegant polychrome glazed porcelain apricot flowers, expressing wishes for a flourishing and fruitful year ahead, will also be issued. Furthermore, Hongkong Post will release as the sixth issue in its second series a "Gold and Silver Stamp Sheetlet on Lunar New Year Animals - Rooster/Dog".
The rooster stamp is hot-foiled with silver while the dog stamp is affixed with 22K gold-plated lace metal. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, this stamp sheetlet will be a perfect collectible.
Two Heartwarming Stamps (2018 Version) "Year of the Dog" mini-panes, which adopt the respective designs of the $2 and $4.90 mint stamps in the "Year of the Dog" special stamp issue of 2018, will be released for sale at all philatelic offices from January 27.
In addition to stamps, "Year of the Dog" red packets, featuring images of the four mint stamps on the same theme, will go on sale at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office, as well as Hongkong Post's Internet shopping mall ShopThruPost (http://www.shopthrupost.hk" target="_blank">www.shopthrupost.hk), on January 27.
