CS praises the Police for professional and outstanding service

Hong Kong (HKSAR) -      The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (February 3) inspected the passing-out parade for 36 probationary inspectors and 237 recruit constables at the Hong Kong Police College.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Cheung said that the rule of law is Hong Kong’s core value, the cornerstone to its success as well as an indispensable factor for maintaining its competitiveness. As a law enforcement agency, the Police has been maintaining Hong Kong’s rule of law, integrity and law and order, and its work has been well recognised and applauded by the local and international communities.

Noting that the number of crimes per 100 000 population in 2017 stood at 758 cases in Hong Kong, a new low in the past 46 years, Mr Cheung attributed the result to the efforts of the 30 000-strong Police Force which strengthen Hong Kong as one of the safest cities in the world.

Mr Cheung remarked that being a professional and outstanding team, the Force takes up the important duty of fighting crime and protecting the lives and property of citizens. In particular, he commended the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau officers for defusing two World War II bombs, each weighed 1 000 pounds, in five days without causing any casualties or property loss.

Mr Cheung expressed gratitude to Police officers for serving the community with dedication and commitment.

He hoped that the graduates would keep up the professional standards of the Force in discharging their duties in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong.
