Career Fair 2018 under Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for Asset and Wealth Management Sector held today

Hong Kong (HKSAR) -      The Government held the Career Fair 2018 "Navigating Possibilities" under the Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Asset and Wealth Management Sector (WAM Pilot Programme) this afternoon (February 3). The Career Fair is held annually as an industry promotion event under the WAM Pilot Programme, with the aim of providing an opportunity for undergraduate students to learn more about the asset and wealth management sector and the upcoming Summer Internship Programme (SIP).
The event featured a panel discussion and three sharing sessions, during which over 10 experienced practitioners offered their insights on the current landscape, job prospects and future development of the asset and wealth management sector. One of the sharing sessions focused on the SIP.

Two university students who joined last year’s SIP shared with participants details of the skills and experience they gained from the WAM Pilot Programme.
Exhibitors from local and international asset and wealth management companies and industry associations were also present to explain the different career paths and functional roles available in the front, middle and back office areas of the sector.
A government spokesperson said, "We hope that the Career Fair can deepen students' understanding of the asset and wealth management sector, so that they can better equip themselves if they wish to pursue a career in this sector upon graduation. We strongly encourage eligible university students who are interested in the sector to apply for the 2018 SIP to obtain first-hand internship experience during the summer vacation."
The SIP, held annually throughout the three-year period of the WAM Pilot Programme, provides a subsidy for employers to offer summer internship positions in asset and wealth management to university students. This year, there are over 100 internship positions from more than 20 firms covering a wide range of functional roles in the sector.

Interested university students may apply for these internship openings from February 5 to 14, 2018. Details about the SIP, including eligibility criteria and application process, are available at
The Government launched the three-year WAM Pilot Programme in August 2016 with the objective of attracting new blood to expand the talent pool, particularly in the more technical areas, and to enhance the professional competency of the asset and wealth management sector, which is essential for the sustainable development of the sector. Initiatives under the WAM Pilot Programme include promotion and education, the SIP, and a financial incentive scheme for the professional training of in-service practitioners in the financial services industry.
