Exhibition to showcase works by Art Specialist Course 2017-18 graduates
Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre of the Art Promotion Office is holding the "Art Specialist Course 2017-18 Graduation Exhibition" from today (February 9) to February 24. The exhibition showcases 24 graduates' achievements and shares their creative ideas, and allows the public to appreciate brilliant contemporary art pieces created by up-and-coming artists.
The opening ceremony was held today. The officiating guests included the Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Heritage and Museums), Mr Chan Shing-wai; the Art Specialist Course (Chinese calligraphy) Course Coordinator, Chui Pui-chee; the Art Specialist Course (Sculpture) Course Coordinator, Lee Chin-fai; and the Head of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau.
The Art Specialist Course 2017-18 covered disciplines of Chinese calligraphy and sculpture, and was co-ordinated by experienced artists Chui and Lee.
Established local artists were also invited to teach specific topics and take the students out of the classroom to visit exhibitions and artists' studios as well as conduct outdoor studies, in order to fortify the aesthetical understanding of the students and broaden their conceptual boundaries.
The new courses for 2018-19 are now open for application. They include Art Specialist Courses in painting and printmaking, as well as Advanced Specialist Courses in Chinese calligraphy and sculpture. The deadline for application is March 11.

The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre is located at 7A Kennedy Road, Central.
It is open daily from 10am to 9pm and from 10am to 5pm on Chinese New Year's Eve, and is closed on Tuesdays and the first three days of Chinese New Year. Admission is free.
