Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works in Western District from next Tuesday


Hong Kong (HKSAR) -      The Transport Department (TD) today (February 13) reminded the public that to facilitate tram track renewal work in Western District, the following temporary traffic and transport arrangements will be implemented from about 10am next Tuesday (February 20) to 10am on February26 (Monday) or until the above work is completed:
 
Traffic arrangements
---------------------------
 
(1) Traffic lane closure
----------------------------
     The following traffic lanes will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic during the periods specified below:
 
From about 10am on February 20 to 10am on February 22
----------------------------------------------------------------------
* A section of the offside and middle lanes of Belcher's Street near Cadogan Street (except for trams); and
* A section of the offside and middle lanes of Cadogan Street near Belcher's Street.
 
From about 10am on February 22 to 10am on February 24
---------------------------------------------------------------------
* A section of the offside lane of Belcher's Street near Cadogan Street; and
* A section of the middle lane of Cadogan Street near Belcher's Street.
 
From about 10am on February 24 to 10am on February 26
----------------------------------------------------------------------
* A section of the middle lane of Belcher's Street near Cadogan Street (except for trams).
 
(2) Vehicle turning movement
--------------------------------------
* All vehicles will be temporarily allowed to turn left from Cadogan Street onto Victoria Road westbound.
 
(3) Closure of pedestrian crossing
------------------------------------------
* The pedestrian crossing on Belcher's Street outside Centenary Mansion will be temporarily closed.
 
Transport arrangements
-----------------------------
 
(1) Suspension of tram terminus
-----------------------------------------
* The Kennedy Town Tram Terminus at Catchick Street outside the Merton Tower 2 will be suspended from about 10am on February 20 to 5am on February 26. Affected passengers should proceed to the westbound tram stop at Catchick Street near Davis Street (No. 104W) for taking eastbound tram services.
 
(2) Bus diversions
------------------------
* New World First Bus routes No.

18P, 18X and 88X and cross-harbour routes No. 113 and 904 will be diverted via Smithfield, Forbes Street and Cadogan Street before resuming their original routings from their first departure on February 20 until 10am on February 24.
 
(3) Bus stop arrangements
 --------------------------------
* In connection with the above bus diversions, temporary bus stop arrangements will be implemented for the affected bus routes.
 
     Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on-site to guide motorists. The public transport operators will display notices to advise passengers of the above temporary arrangements.

     The Transport Department anticipates that the traffic in the vicinity of Belcher's Street and Cadogan Street would be more congested during the above works period.

Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. They should exercise tolerance and patience in case of traffic congestion. Public transport commuters are advised to pay attention to the arrangements of route diversions and suspension/relocation of stops.
 
     Members of the public are advised to plan their journey in advance and allow sufficient travelling time to cater for unexpected delay, and be alert to the latest traffic news through the media.
