HK-Mainland Cyber Security Forum explores challenges and opportunities for smart connectivity
Hong Kong (HKSAR) - âThe third HK-Mainland Cyber Security Forum, jointly organised by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) and the Bureau of Cyber Security of Cyberspace Administration of China, was successfully held today (April 11). The Forum brought together information and communications technology enterprises and experts from Hong Kong and the Mainland to exchange views and promote cyber security technology and industry development.
The theme of this year's Forum was "Challenges and Opportunities of Secure, Smart Connectivity". About 180 management personnel and professionals from the cyber security industry in the two places attended the Forum.
The Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Allen Yeung, said, "The level and complexity of cyber attacks are evolving as new technologies and models are being employed in smart city development, posing new challenges to cyber security."
He noted that smart city applications, such as households, payment systems, transport and healthcare systems, are closely linked to the daily lives of the public. The normal operation of the city would be affected if any of these networked systems were attacked. Cyber security is therefore of paramount importance to smart cities.
"The market demand for cyber security will continue to rise. The industry should seize this opportunity to offer users trustworthy cyber security services and data protection measures," he said.
The OGCIO also introduced to the audience the Pilot Partnership Programme for Cyber Security Information Sharing. Under the pilot programme, an information sharing platform for cyber security will be launched in the second half of this year to promote the exchange of cyber security information among public and private organisations, in order to strengthen Hong Kong's overall defensive capability and resilience.
The Forum comprised four sessions. Cyber security experts shared their insights on the challenges to be posed by smart connectivity, including strategies and measures to safeguard infrastructures and big data security.
