HKETO, Brussels supports Hong Kong films at Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival
Hong Kong (HKSAR) - The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels (HKETO, Brussels) is supporting the screening of four recently released Hong Kong films at the 2018 Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFFF), which is taking place in Brussels, Belgium from April 3 to 15.
The four Hong Kong films being screened at the 2018 BIFFF are Herman Yau's "Shock Wave", Yuen Woo-ping's "1 000 Faces of Dunjia", Raman Hui's "Monster Hunt 2" and Jeff Lau's "Soccer Killer". A reception, hosted by HKETO, Brussels, was held on April 12 (Brussels time) to highlight Hong Kong's participation in the BIFFF. The reception was followed by a screening of "Shock Wave".
Speaking at the reception, the Deputy Representative of the HKETO, Brussels, Miss Fiona Chau, highlighted Hong Kong's success in filmmaking. She noted that freedom of speech and expression, as enshrined in the Basic Law, as well as Hong Kong's rich cultural mix of Chinese and Western influences, help create an environment that encourage creativity and diversity.
"The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will continue to adopt a multi-pronged approach in promoting the development of the film industry, which includes encouraging local film production, nurturing talent, audience building and establishing the Hong Kong film brand name both in the region and overseas," said Miss Chau.
The BIFFF, which has been held for 36 years, is the most important festival of its kind in Europe. Some 100 films of the fantasy, horror, thriller and science-fiction genres are being screened at the festival this year. The festival is known for its enthusiastic audience participation and attracts huge media coverage.
