With over 117 million worldwide monthly visitors (ComScore), MySpace is the largest social network in the world. MySpace is also the stickiest social network in the world: users visit the site an average of 17 times each month, spending an average of 242 minutes on the site. In the U.S. alone we currently serve 42 billion page views monthly. Our users come to MySpace to meet friends, find and listen to new bands/music, blog, plan events, play games, and participate in user forums and groups. MySpace has revolutionized the way people interact and plan their social lives.

MySpace is looking to hire a highly experienced Sr. Director of Business Development. Working with senior management, this person will structure and negotiate complex media and technology-driven deals. Candidates must have substantial experience with online advertising, deal negotiations, and analysis. A passion for social media and an appreciation of its potential for users and advertisers is important. A proven track record leading deals that involved many of the complexities of Web 2.0 is a must. This includes experience structuring deals around content syndication and integration with third party APIs while at the same time addressing issues of data portability, service level agreements, etc. 

 
Location:
 This position will report to either MySpace - Los Angelesor MySpace - San Francisco
Candidates from Los Angeles and San Francisco strongly preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage web deal analysis and negotiations
  • Manage client and internal communications
  • Research and evaluate market trends
  • Prepare presentations, financial projections, and strategic analysis
  • The Sr. Director of Business Development will focus on at least one of the following functional areas:
    • Executing enterprise technology deals to support the ongoing evolution of MySpace as a leading social network
    • Licensing content to support key MySpace content verticals
    • Supporting the commercial aspects of the MySpace Developer Platform (based on the OpenSocial APIs)
    • Supporting MySpace sales executives in going beyond traditional IAB advertising campaigns to exceed client business objectives
 
Requirements/Skills
:
  • Bachelors Degree from a Top Tier University; MBA or JD a plus
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • First-hand experience with a variety of online advertising models including CPM, CPC, and CPA
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the emerging trends in social media and the business models and technologies behind it
  • Background in web application development is a real plus (e.g. experience in coding web technologies including CSS/XHTML, JavaScript and AJAX as well as knowledge of C,C++, C# or Java, Ruby, or Python)
  • Extensive deal negotiation and client management experience
  • Strong communication and presentation design skills
  • Financial modeling experience
  • Ability to work well in a team environment as well as set personal goals and manage time
