Senior Web UI Developer

The role

The Senior Web Developer will be responsible for leading UI and front-end development, mentoring and helping other developers, and applying their expertise in XHTML/CSS/JavaScript to an array of client-specific work.  This role requires solid communication skills as you will be working directly with Information Architects, Visual Designers, Project Managers and Software Engineers. 

The Sr. Web Developer must possess technical knowledge and development skills across a range of technologies including:

• (X)HTML, CSS
• JavaScript, AJAX
• XML/XSLT
• Extensive experience with cross-browser development and testing

Responsibilities:

• Develop optimized/cross-platform front-end code in (X)HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
• Develop functional prototypes to demonstrate interactive concepts.
• Mentor the other front-end developers and ensure all code produced by the team is clean, high quality and standards compliant.
• Effectively distribute all front-end work across the team of developers.
• Implement cross-browser/cross-platform UI compatibility and troubleshoot associated issues.
• Maintain cutting edge knowledge of current and emerging technologies, industry trends and standards including, but not limited to, modern web browser capabilities, compatibility issues and behavior related to the use of different DOCTYPE declarations, character encoding, W3C standards compliance and accessibility issues.
• Work in close coordination with the Graphic Design and User Experience Teams to ensure that implementation is done in accordance to design specifications and that design specifications accommodate realistic technical parameters and constraints.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years experience building interactive email/web sites/applications.
• Technical mastery of client-side web user interface development technologies including JavaScript, AJAX, DOM, (X)HTML, CSS.
• Ability to hand-code all XHTML, CSS and JavaScript (no WYSIWYG editors or tools)
• Knowledge of cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility including knowledge of and ability to solve common associated issues as well as investigate and troubleshoot complex inconsistencies.
• Experience using JavaScript and AJAX libraries such as jQuery or Prototype/ script.aculo.us
• Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization best practices
• Experience with version control systems including Visual SourceSafe and Subversion.
• General UI background (Information architecture, site flow, accessibility, browser capabilities, etc).
• Excellent analytical, problem solving and debugging skills.
• Good written and oral communication skills andability to work either independently or within a team environment.

Desirable Skills/Knowledge:

• Experience with fast UI prototyping, rapid iterations, Agile web development methodologies.
• Experience developing web applications on the Microsoft .NET and ASP.NET frameworks
• Experience working in the Visual Studio IDE
• Knowledge of server-side scripting languages such as PHP, JSP or Ruby on Rails
• Experience working in a LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySql/PHP) environment
• Experience with Content Management Systems such as Drupal and Umbraco
