American City Business Journals is looking for a leader (title to be based on experience) for our User Experience Design team to help us create vision for, design, and build front-end experiences for our network of 50+ publication websites, applications, and partnerships. 

This is a management position reporting to the VP of Product Development.

And while we want a leader, we also like people who still *do* too. You'll utilize wireframes, html-based mockups, your skills, and simple prototypes to create new initiatives. Additionally, you'll work with our existing teams to recommend improvements to our existing externally-focused digital/web applications. 

As a voice for our audience(s), the right person also will review the work of his/her team and will be accountable for the quality of group deliverables. This personnel manager should be experienced in evangelizing user centered design and be able to work closely with product managers and developers to see that the UX is inline with the goals of the project. 

In general, success in this position means increases in audience engagement, page-views, and repeat visits across individuals sites and the network. 

Skills

  • HTML, JavaScript (jQuery) and CSS experience. Web standards and implementations. PHP and MySQL a bonus but not required. 
  • Bachelors required or professional experience in Human Factors, Design, User Interface design, or related field. 
  • 3-7 years professional experience as an interactive designer, user experience designer, information architect, or interactive architect. 
  • 1-3 years of management experience. 
  • Strong user experience skill set – experience strategy, information architecture, and design aesthetic -- very helpful.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams to consensus on design decisions 
  • Strong relationship skills and the ability to influence all levels of employees and management to obtain buy-in for your designs. 
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
