Overview:
The Hired Guns are casting for a Digital Design Pro to lead the online redesign of a beloved magazine brand living at the epicenter of pop culture and politics.
Gun Profile:
We’re looking for someone who can play lead for an online redesign. This means you can set a vision, sell it, and get the job done. You have a proven track record building exceptional online user experiences that breed rabid fans and loyalists: you know how to present news online, give “the look” your own special twist and build robust, well-trafficked community areas.
In this role, you’ll be working directly with the magazine’s Art Director, the site’s Editorial Director, and the Chief Digital Officer – all of whom have ideas about the brand’s online personality. They are hiring you because you possess the unique gift of being able to coalesce their ideas with your own vision and expertise.
While we need a strategist, we also need someone to “touch the product”, so you have to be the kind of visionary who still adores the design process. You’ll be pitching in on the actual day-to-day design, you’ll be executing on your ideas … and you wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ve got strong conceptual and typographic skills, a great understanding of UX, a love of interaction design, and a firm grasp of CSS and design software like Adobe Creative Suite. Motion graphics and animation skills are a plus!
You’ve got a dynamic vision of the digital universe and the ability to translate editorial concepts into exciting, brand-reflecting designs. With a demonstrated understanding of user-centered design, web usability principles, IA, and the capabilities of different platforms and browsers, you innately get the design constraints of the Web and have strong technical knowledge (not in the sense of coding, but of knowing what is and isn’t possible).
Nitty Gritty:
In this role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all design aspects of the site and for creating and delivering an innovative, user-friendly interface consistent with the magazine’s sophisticated look. Already undergoing an extensive redesign, the site is expanding rapidly; you’ll play a central role in defining and reshaping the overall visual presentation.
You’ll be collaborating with the magazine’s Art Director and online editorial team to conceive and execute design projects within tight deadlines. By maintaining all brand guidelines and visual styles used within the print mag, you will ensure consistency in the brand’s online presence. You’ll also be charged with aligning creative concepts with technical specifications and with designing ongoing website updates like special features and new promotions.
