Hotels.com: Creative Designer

(London)

From our office in Seven Dials just blocks from Covent Garden Market, the User Experience team for Hotels.com Worldwide oversees 77 sites in 36 languages. We are a leading e-commerce site and online travel agency. If you’re familiar with our site, you’ll definitely be interested to hear we’re growing our visual design team as part of an effort to re-think and re-execute the visual design of Hotels.com.

We’re looking for designers that want to:

·         Utilize their ability to both art direct and design

·         Drive an understanding of the importance of design within the organisation

·         Embrace and demonstrate the thinking and intent (the ‘why?’) behind design

You’ll have a central role in both fast-paced site optimisation projects and larger functional/interaction design initiatives for areas such as search results, landing page optimisation, and checkout/booking projects across the web and mobile devices.

We imagine you’ll be well versed in the technical design considerations for the web and e-commerce, and we’ll expect to be impressed by the ability of your design work to enliven and promote content.

Whilst you’ll be collaborating with the Manager of Creative Design and the larger team, you’ll often find yourself directly owning the designs you’re working on. With that comes the need to analyse problems, set and work within deadlines, and negotiate and communicate your design solutions to your fellow designers, product managers and company leadership.

Here’s the experience we’re looking for you to bring to the team:

·         Ideally candidates may have a minimum of three years visual design experience for the web (highly-functional/e-commerce sites is a huge plus)

·         Knowledge of HTML/CSS/JavaScript within modern browsers/devices; hands-on experience is highly-regarded but not necessary

·         Experience handling designs from concept through production on cross-functional teams

·         Experience communicating design with business stakeholders and management

·         Ability to seek constructive criticism, brainstorm, and produce new ideas from unexpected sources

·         Experience with estimates and time management

You would be regularly using ]:

·         Adobe Creative Suite products including: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Fireworks

·         Windows PC environments (Mac experience is a plus)

·         Web development toolkits such as Firebug and other source-code viewers/editors

·         User Acceptance Testing and bug reporting

·         Familiarity with smartphones

Your work should demonstrate an understanding of:

·         HTML/CSS/JavaScript

·         Browser capabilities

·         Principles of Layout

·         Principles of Typography

·         Grid systems

·         Colour theory

·         Affordance

·         Golden Ratio

·         Accessibility
