Subtext, a Portland, OR based UX design group, is looking for a strong UI/IxD Designer to join our creative team.

Our focus is to build a talented team capable of concepting, prototyping and implementing extremely usable and beautiful interfaces for a variety of web, mobile and touch platforms. As a team, we build strong, lasting relationships with our clients by becoming the trusted source for expertise, thereby creating more positive project engagements to push the creative limitations and solutions.

The ideal candidate will need to have a strong understanding of the web, a solid foundation in design application & theory, and a passionate curiosity to explore an ever-changing field. Responsibilities will include: brainstorming and researching creative concepts, wireframing and working with development to prototype unique solutions, as well as creating pixel-perfect interfaces to be integrated into the visual layer of any given project. The candidate will work closely as a team with a developer to ensure the vision of the project is carried through.

To succeed in this position you’ll need:

• A BFA or BA/BS in some flavor of design (or perhaps you have a few years of real-world experience).
• An online portfolio demonstrating a solid understanding and application of typography, composition, color and concept.
• Examples of project work illustrating strong problem-solving skills, as well as unique solutions within limitations.
• A strong understanding of the process of designing for the web (wireframes, comps, general pixel pushing, etc.)
• Some understanding of HTML/CSS and what can be done with it.
• The ability to think on your feet, and desire to go after the ideas you concept.
• Willingness to prove yourself, but a humbleness to accept direction and criticism.
• Ability to articulate reasoning behind design decisions internally and in front of others (clients)
• Your finger on the pulse of what other designers are doing in the industry.

Bonus if you have:

• Read the whole series of A Book Apart.
• The ability to write well.

Other info: 

This will be a full-time paid position, in equal measure with experience. Individual can work remote occasionally, but will need to spend a good amount of time with the group in order to be successful.
