  American Museum of Natural History: Front-End Developer

The American Museum of Natural History is seeking a HTML5 and CSS3 expert to produce webpage templates for its Seminars on Science program, an award-winning series of online science courses for educators.

SCOPE OF WORK:

The freelance vendor will produce 14 webpage templates for use in the Seminars on Science online courses based on existing Photoshop design mockups. Each template will be embedded into the Moodle courseware system and make use of HTML 5, CSS 3, JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax, and responsive design. The project work will be conducted in three phases over one month (August - September 2012).

Please note: only vendors who are incorporated will be considered for the position. NYC metropolitan area preferred.

Phase 1 – Framework

  • plan page layouts based on existing designs
  • work with AMNH to verify that layouts and functions will behave correctly in the Moodle platform
  • map out HTML / CSS / Javascript organization and libraries

Phase 2 – Build Out

  • generate html for each of the 14 following templates (course home, week home, resource page, essay, video, interactive, audio, photo gallery, profile, discussion, assignment, final project, course info, help page)
  • review all files with AMNH

Phase 3 – Upload and Test

  • upload all of the templates into Moodle platform
  • add example "real" content into each template
  • conduct quality assurance (cross-browser testing and link checking) on the templates

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • write elegant, semantic front-end code
  • use the latest web standards and logical, well-structured code to convert static design into a pixel-perfect and graceful user experience
  • work alongside a small and efficient staff to deliver the templates in a timely manner

Phase 1 – Framework

  • Materials delivered to vendor: August 27, 2012
  • Plan Draft review: September 3, 2012
  • Plan Final review: September 10, 2012

Phase 2 – Buildout

  • HTML Draft review: September 10, 2012
  • HTML Final review September 17, 2012

Phase 3 – Upload and Test

  • Materials uploaded to Moodle: September 17, 2012
  • Example content added: September 17, 2012
  • QA for all templates in system: September 24, 2012
