A little bit difficult to understand, but if listen carefully can tell who is calling most of the time. Wish it repeated number and name.

Connects easily to your home phone: Rating: 5/5
The SBC-40 is a great compliment to any cordless or corded home phone. It uses similar technology that is in very expensive cordless phones. So instead of buying a cordless phone with Talking caller id you can add talking caller id to any home phone.
The SBC-40 has a volume control on the back and a mute button on front. It will announce the name of the telephone caller if it is provided by the telephone company. If the telephone company does not provide the name of the caller it will announce the telephone number of the person calling (if the telephone company provides it - otherwise it will announce unknown).

The product arrived as scheduled but was a disappointment. The volume could not be controlled, did not respond to all calls and could not compare to the 9900CW. I cannot recommed this product.

I like it but some names are easier to understand than others. Some seem garbled, but it is still a worthwhile item and I would recommend it.

Pro - it installs easily and is ready to use. Plug phone cord (no power needed) into unit, and then second cord from unit to phone. That's it.
Con - almost impossible to understand what the voice is saying. The translation of text to speech is poor (names are usually not even close). Even when the names are translated right, the sound quality is poor so its hard to understand. And finally, at least half the calls we get have numbers but no name (e.g. "wireless caller") -- the unit will announce "wireless caller" (or garbled sounds to that effect) instead of the number, which doesn't help much
I disconnected it after a week of it being no use at all. |
