| Product Description |
| A sweeping story captivates players from the start! An epic story in an authentic world hand-crafted with an eye for detail and populated by "real", plausible characters. A Mysterious Volcanic Island The heavy tremors on the island bode ill for its inhabitants. Ancient temples have risen from the ground recently, bizarre creatures are terrorising the area. Fear and terror is spreading among the population. The End of All Hope? A group of powerful men who call themselves "The Inquisitors" have taken it upon them-selves to put an end to these events. They send an exhibition to this remote island, but a storm takes hold of the ship and destroys it at sea. A Hero Will Come As if by a miracle, the player survives the shipwreck and is stranded on the volcanic island alone. He finds himself amidst a chaos of rebellion, tyranny and mystic rituals. He must now decide to which side the pendulum of fate will swing. |
| Customer Reviews: Average Rating: 4.0/5 | | A good "spirtual successor" to Gothic 1 and 2: Rating: 4/5 |
I'm about 10 hours into the game so far, and, overall, I'd say this game works well as a "spirtual successor" to Piranha Bytes previous CRPGs Gothic 1 and 2. The game is enjoyable; the graphics, atmosphere, performance, sounds, and voice acting I've seen so far are solid. The AI seems improved over previous games, and the combat has a good balance between challenge and enjoyment.
While Piranha Bytes (or perhaps their former publisher) may have slipped a bit with Gothic 3, I'd say Risen takes them several large steps toward redemption. If you're a fan of (relatively) free roaming CRPGs, definitely give the demo a try at least. |
| | HUGE atmosphere, satisfying gameplay.: Rating: 5/5 |
This game takes place in a fantasticly beautiful world. There are lots of caves and dungeons to explore and if you like a freeroaming rpg, then you should love this game. But if your looking for this to be as good as Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, then you will be disappointed, for this game is quite different...Everyone is looking for another game similar to oblivion, but there really isnt any, other than Fallout 3. You start out this game as a piece of trash shipwrecked on a beach, and you are alone, without any friends. nearly everyone seems to be your enemy. Some people might find this distasteful, but this is where the fun comes in. you have to earn respect and earn your weapons and armor. You can learn alchemy, enchant weapons, learn blacksmithing, hunt, and even learn powerful magic spells. If you feel like getting lost in a great RPG world, then get this game! You wont regret it! |
| | Disappointed !: Rating: 1/5 |
| The characters are very hard to move around and control. They are also very jerky. I am very disappointed in the game and will probably not play it. The colors are terrible, also. |
| | Fantastic spiritual successor to the Gothic series: Rating: 5/5 |
Gothic 3 had it's faults but it was still a good game, and with the community 1.7 patch, it is a GREAT game. I have no interest in Gothic 4 as it's being done by a new team and is looking too americanised for my tastes (Flashy menus with excessive text littered all over the screen and Oblivion style combat) So what did the pirhana's bring us next?
I am a fan of European RPG's and I pretty much dislike the gimpy U.S. style RPGs like Dragon Age and Mass Effect where they focus more on selling their game by explosions, sex scenes and excessively whiny party members instead of classic RPG gameplay, just to help you see what style of games I like.
Risen seems to have returned to the roots of Gothic 2 in terms of design. It is not quite as epic and compelling as Gothic 2, and I would rather the exact combat system from Gothic 2, but still is quite a lot of fun to play and an excellent all around game. Visuals are nice (But suffer a little from consolitus it seems) and the story was interesting and compelling enough to keep me going from start to end.
Looking forward to what they bring us in Risen 2 |
| | Risen- Had the Challange and adventure I've been looking for...: Rating: 4/5 |
First off, I'm an old school gamer.I was playing ATARI 2600 Before some of you were even born. Before buying any RPG game I research it and found that RISEN, rised to even my expectations. YES,it does have some BUGS in it,and LAGS in some places..BUT,HELL NOTHINGS PERFECT. Regardless, the creaters of RISEN have put alot of TLC in making it an adventure game, they can be proud of, an you'll really enjoy playing. The game will CHALLANGE YOU FROM THE START...it will show you no favortism. The monsters are merciless from the start and just get harder. YOU will have to work hard to gain any trust from the charaters you will run into...and to make matters worse your first weapon will be a LARGE WOOD BRANCH. FOR THE RECORD,I DON'T USE CHEAT CODES...It takes away the fun and challange of the game(The whole purpose for buying it in the first place).I strongly suggest you read the manual, especally the hints it gives you...they'll work in your favor, especally down the road,as you progress. |
