Fantastic for singles and their empty-nester parents.: Rating: 5/5
I wanted to keep my landline, but I don't want to keep "feeding the beast" (a certain huge telephone company the name of which roughly rhymes with "horizon"); that is, I didn't want to pay for services I didn't need or want from them. Ooma's easy to set up (I have the beast's fiber-optic internet service), and online management (e.g., blocking numbers including telemarketers and phishing callers posing as "card services"; billing preferences; voicemail settings including having voicemail cc'd to my email in a .mov format). Premium services are totally worth it. I ported my number over for free when I signed-up for a year's subscription to Premium services (porting takes about two weeks and went smoothly): make sure you aren't hit with any early termination charges from your previous phone company (I was hit with at $179 charge - ouch).

Ooma customer service is best handled on the phone or in their online message board (accessible through My Ooma - your account management site online). Email inquiries take a while to result in responses, but Ooma reps reply to board posts in about a day, and after that, you can be in direct contact with them regarding you issue via email.

Sound quality without a landline is excellent.

For my empty-nester parents, I'm keeping a bare-bones landline with "the beast" telephone co., but am adding Ooma so I can easily block anonymous telemarketers and the like, who bother them way too much (and, it seems, freak them out, though they won't admit it). I'm keeping the landline because I don't want them to be hit with an early termination charge from "the beast" phone co., and because it's a nice way to contribute to Ooma's P2P network/community - to ensure its success. By subscribing to Premium Services, I'm able to manage how their calls are handled, according to their stated preferences. It's a great way I'm helping my parents streamline things (no dinnertime calls, etc.). Love Ooma and hope they grow and grow!

Port problems caused by OOMA Support Team.: Rating: 3/5
I started the number port process on December 17th, 2009 and billed for the port on December 24th, 2009. I was not contacted and after a couple of weeks I called OOMA support to find out what was going on with my port. I was told then that it would be completed on January 8th, when it was not done with again, no e-mail I reached back out to OOMA support, to find out that the information that I provided was then re-typed and incorrectly provided to my original phone carrier, this causing the delay in getting my number ported. I was told over and over again, even after providing the original documents that were e-mailed to the OOMA LOA team that it was my problem and not theirs, all documents that I sent were correct. Over the next two months I would call to see what the update was, I was told repeatedly that I would get a phone call several times a week from them personally to get an update. NONE were ever made. I also was told several times that I would be compensated for the issue since it was indeed not my problem that caused this issue. I have been told that I would get a year of the premium service since what I have had to pay my provider I was porting from would have payed for a year of premium service. I still have not seen this and more in likely will not. The number was finally ported on March 15th 2010. After having to send them the same information for a third time, because the second time it was provided they told me they never got it, but I received an e-mail from the LOA e-mail address telling me that they got it. Other then these problems the phone service is very good and would recommend that you don't port a number over as it will take months to get it done.

Disappointing!!!!: Rating: 1/5
No complaint on shipment by Amazon.com. Packaging is excellent. Not difficult to install. First time on, Telo does self diagnostic check and is supposed to self-download its operating software within about 30 minutes. Apparently, attempt to self-download run for 12 hours non-stop and failed. Reported to Support 8 times to no success. Each time the agent asked routine questions and one security question. Agents did not return his or her finding of the problem. At last one agent was kind enough to issue a problem ticket number and said that Technical Support would return to me with a solution within 24 to 48 hours. 24 hours went by, 48 hours went by, 72 hours went by without any response. On the fifth day after activation, and no responding Technical Support, regretfully I have to close this case and decided to return this defective Telo to Amazon.com. Thank you to Amazon.com for handling this return wisely. Would I recommend this product to others? No.

Beware, non-techies. From the reviews it seems that the Telo works fine for many people, but not for me. Hooked it up between the modem and the router, the Ooma prefered setup, and lost my computer internet connection. Hooked it up after the router, got internet connection back but no Telo. Customer support answered my phone call promptly, which was impressive, but advised me to "disable the firewall on the router." No doubt someone who likes to fool around with this stuff would persevere and eventually succeed in having both internet connection and Telo, but not me. The thing is pushed hard to be an easy setup, and it wasn't, not in this case. Boxed it back up and will return it.

Great Product!: Rating: 5/5
I have had the Ooma Telo for about 7 months now. I absolutely love this phone. Calls are crystal clear, and having come from Vonage, having a dedicated voicemail machine that I can check at home or away is a definite plus. Wouldn't trade this for the world!
